|Desription ......... Most music and video fans will want the 8 GB iPhone. Don’t get us wrong, the 4 GB model is plenty cool, it’s just that the 8 GB iPhonel allows you to store twice as much music and video, and boasts a talking time of 450 minutes, versus 300 for the 4 GB model. Either way, you’re in for many hours of stellar fun and performance.
It All Starts With The Touch-Sensitive Display
Apple engineers have apparently perfected touchscreen technology with the iPhone, with its patented multi-touch design that lets users browse the web, navigate between voice mails, add data to their phone books, and enjoy a variety of media formats with just a few taps of the screen. At 480 x 320 (160 dpi), the screen is plenty large; the virtual QWERTY interface requires no stylus, and that’s a very good thing. The completely responsive screen features generous-sized controls that allow for even the thickest fingers to navigate comfortably. And with features like Google Maps, Apple’s Media Player, and a complete customized YouTube experience, we have the feeling that Mac Fanatics everywhere will be spending a lot of time with their new iPhones.
From media junkies to casual video fans, iPhone users will marvel not only at the phone’s highly-responsive design, but also at amazing features like Apple’s implementation of motion sensor technology (tech types call it an accelerometer.) As the phone is moved, or rotated, the image on the screen switches orientations automatically. In some applications, like Google Maps, users can scroll and zoom to their hearts content, enjoying the benefits of the iPhone’s robust processing power to deliver seamless image quality and speed.
Widget is a funny word for a software application that runs on your iPhone – and there are plenty of them. From integrated iTunes software that lets you download and play your favorite music, to the Apple Safari browser, Apple Media player, and extras like a translator that lets you translate to and from English and ten other languages, the iPhone is loaded with fun and functionality. Other widgets included on the iPhone include applications that allow you to get up-to-the-minute stock data, flight info, world weather data, a world clock, a measurement calculator, and more. Because of these features, the iPhone is poised to take over where many smart phones, and even some PDAs leave off.
Also included is a 2 megapixel digital camera (though we’re disappointed by the iPhone’s lack of ability to take video images – hopefully that will be addressed in later versions.) As a quad-band GSM (Group Special Mobile) equipped phone, the iPhone is ready for action just about anywhere in the world. The use of GSM technology has led Apple to ink an exclusive deal with AT&T to provide service to iPhone customers for the next five years.
